A full-size hand-forged American felling axe on a 36-inch hickory handle, built to drop trees and buck logs. The high carbon steel head is forged to bite deep, and the long handle gives you the leverage to do it in fewer swings.
Handmade in Central Texas
Every felling axe is forged one at a time by hand at our shop in Waco. The head is heated and hammered to shape, the edge is ground and sharpened by hand, and it is hung on a hickory handle fitted to that head. No two come off the anvil exactly alike, since a person forges each one.
The hand-forged steel head
Hand-forged from high carbon steel, heated and hammered to shape one piece at a time. The weight sits behind a thin, keen bit so the axe drives deep into a cut and pops the chip loose instead of sticking.
The felling edge
Ground and honed by hand to a felling edge: thin enough to slice into green and seasoned wood, hard enough to hold up swing after swing. A few passes on a stone or a file bring it back when it starts to dull.
The hickory handle
American hickory, the wood that has handled striking tools for generations because it soaks up shock without splitting. Thirty-six inches for a full two-handed swing, with the reach and leverage that heavy chopping calls for.
